2019 Artist: Danielle Kelso
"Red Violin," by Danielle Kelso of Manic Distractions out of Des Moines.
Danielle is an artist new to the festival this year.
"My works are acrylic on canvas or acrylic based mediums for mixed media projects. I draw inspiration from impressionistic and expressionist art, modern day pop culture, such as movies and music, and artistic photos. Artistic influences include Georgia O’Keeffe, Jackson Pollock, Matisse, Banksy, Jean Basquiat and Frida Kahlo. Paintings start off with a photo or picture, and it changes into something completely different. Distorting reality and objects to skew perspective to reflect a warped version of the world is a common theme. Many works are either vibrant, primary colors, warm and cold pallets or very limited muted pallets. Several works are panel installations to represent the duality of human nature and of perspective."
