2020 Artist: Alex Schmiechen

Please welcome another new-to-us artist, Alex Schmiechen of the Cabyn Fever studio from Cedar Rapids.

From Alex:

"I explore the theme of mindfulness through handmade ceramic work that can be used throughout daily life. Making, using, and experiencing ceramic art can help center and bring a person back into the present moment. I specialize in wheel thrown functional pottery that has widespread utility. I make forms that include hanging planters, travel mugs, wall shelves, jars, and dishware. I implement surface designs that take the form of meditative abstract patterns, flowing sgraffito phrases, and the landscapes that surround me."
