2020 Artist: Hanna Piepel

Take a look at this mini macrame pinch pot and try to tell us you don't want a dozen of them. Go ahead. Try. FYI: hand not included. Hanna Piepel of Hanna Piepel Design Studio was one of our 2020 awarded artists and is back again. "My interest in clay is mostly utilitarian and its ability to incorporate beauty into our everyday living. In an era of factory-produced possessions, I like the gentle reminder to appreciate handmade. Each piece I make, although part of a series or family, has its own personality. Like an old friend that you share coffee with everyday, you know their eccentricities and uniqueness. Pottery reflects the appreciation we have of the simple beauty in our daily rituals. I primarily use porcelain due to its responsiveness on the wheel. The process is meditative, centering and calming. It is my hope that this energy is transferred to each piece. I believe in mindfulness everyday and I hope my pottery helps facilitate that gratitude in a beautiful way. As a multi disciplinary artist, I am able to merge my illustration roots with my clay practice by image transfer techniques. The bone-white color of porcelain allows vibrant contrast with my unique, screen printed designs. The eclectic contrast of vintage floral fabric and mid-century pottery inspire my surface decoration and form."
