You might never look at the Des Moines skyline the same way. Amber Deer returns to the Waukee Arts Festival.

"Capturing the beauty of my hometown is the goal that I strive for with each of my pieces. My artwork is inspired by the things and places around me. Using buildings that I have seen and driven by my entire life requires me to take a closer look as I compose them into my subject matter. Each layer of my work is planned to balance the subject and composition of each piece. The first layer of each piece is collage, the images I use in the collage are selected to complement the architectural elements of my cityscapes. The second layer is the line work and drawn elements that hold each piece together. The final element of paint completes each piece and brings a new life to the composition. I love to use warm earth tones in my pieces to make them welcoming and inviting and I hope the viewer can reconnect with the beauty of the city through my artwork."
