Artist: Jorja Kemp
Jorja Kemp has taken a few turns here and there to finally find her chosen medium. We're just glad she has also found her way into our festival.
"In my artwork I use the vivid and highly saturated colors of a rarely used medium, alcohol ink. I paint with the inks in a loose and free style on smooth non-porous surfaces.
Controlling the inks turns out to be quite difficult. I was intrigued by how the inks reacted to each other in stunning unpredictable ways. They allowed me to feel free. I have found a renewed sense of my own creativity and joy, painting the quizzical and colorful abstracts.
I continue to feel compelled to paint more vibrant animals, for they tend to be symbolic of where we might keep our emotions. I try capturing their inner whimsical nature by paying special attention to the eyes, conveying their unconditional love, sincerity, and devotion. They reflect back to us, adding joy, comfort, and color to our lives."
