Student Scholarship Winners

Congratulations to Isabel Kent and Olivia Johnson, our two Waukee students chosen to receive our 2019 Waukee Area Arts Council Scholarships.

Isabel was awarded for her work in the Studio Arts. In addition to having completed every studio arts course Waukee has to offer, she has completed classes with the Des Moines Arts Center and Waukee Area Arts Council. Isabel has had works chosen for exhibits in the Des Moines Arts Festival, Conference Art Show, and Waukee Arts Festival. She will begin her studies in Graphic Design at the University of Iowa this fall, and later hopes to one day own her own business.

Olivia Johnson, our awarded Performance Arts student, has been active in both music and dance since the age of five, when she first began studies with the School of Classical Ballet and Dance. She has performed with their company, Ballet Des Moines, in productions of The Nutcracker (including the lead), Snow White, and The Wizard of Oz, and currently performs in the A Capella choir for Waukee High School. She will go on this fall to the University of Kansas to double major in Dance and Electrical Engineering. She hopes to one day combine both studies to create shows she can both choreograph and light.

Two very talented students!

We hope you will join us at a reception held at the Waukee Arts Festival to celebrate their accomplishments and wish them well with their futures.
